Seahawks Robbed Of Superbowl XL
Okay, I don’t want to sound like a whiner here, being that I am a huge Seahawks fan and my opinion is a little biased. But the Steelers had their own 12th man to represent this Superbowl Sunday, and he was wearing stripes and a whistle.
Darrell Jackson was robbed of a great touchdown first quarter that would’ve put the Hawks up 7-0, which forced us into settling for the field goal by an outrageous offensive pass interference call. The ref right there didn’t even throw a flag on the play, until after Steelers safety Chris Hope cried to the ref about it. Another B.S. call on Sean Locklear for holding stopped our forward moving momentum that would’ve put us on the 1 yardline. Following that a flustered Hasselbeck screwed a pass for an interception and then gets called for a “low block” when attempting to tackle the Steelers ballcarrier. Since when is hitting the guy carrying the ball considered blocking? Maybe it’s just me, but I thought that was called a tackle. That awful call cost us another valuable 15 yards.
I won’t even go into the controversial Roethlisberger touchdown dive that was beautifully stopped by D.D. Lewis.
Even ESPN.com’s Page 2 columnist Skip Bayless, who has spent the better part of the last 2 week tearing into the Seahawks, saw what was an obviously poorly officiated game:
Steeling one: Hawks get robbed
The Jackson play, the Roethlisberger play, the Locklear play—as the Rolling Stones sang in their halftime finale, you couldn’t get no satisfaction, Seahawks fans.
Your team had only one turnover to Pittsburgh’s two … and your team lost.
Your team held Roethlisberger to a 9-for-21 night for only 123 yards, with two interceptions … and your team lost.
Your Shaun Alexander surprised me by running for almost 100 yards (95 on 25 carries) … and your team lost.
Your offense had almost 400 yards (396) against that vaunted Steelers defense … and your team lost.
[...]
On this night, the only frauds wore stripes.
For those out there that are Steelers fans, I don’t wanna dog the Pittsburgh Steelers. They played a great game and, though I think the Hawks did outplay them, it would have been a close game that could’ve gone either way without the poor penalty calls.

I understand what your saying Jesse. So does at least 50% of the sports analysts I’ve been hearing. I’m a huge Steeler’s fan, but sympathize with your point of view. Maybe if you guys figure out how to keep your running back we’ll do it again next year?

Comments:The three reasons Seahawk fans are crying.......................................B.S.
F.Y.I
Roethlisberger did make it in. A few of my friends had the same opinions as yourself. After watching in super slow/stop “DVR” they all agreed the ball broke the plain by about 1/4 inch, and was pushed back by contact. Ok so you still dont believe he made it. 4th and 1/4 of an inch on the goal, Pittsburg still gets 7
The hold WAS a hold, grant you teams dont always get called on it but Seattle did. Keep in mind the defender had a direct line on Hasselbeck, and clipped his heels even after the hold. Maybe Hasselbeck gets hit and loses the ball if the hold didnt happen, but it did.
And the pass interference was OBVIOUS. You cant extend your elbow when you push off a defender, hench pushing off/pass interference. You can see the defenders momentum go the other way due to the contact.
If you want to whine and cry, I will agree, Hasselbecks tackle/block after the interception was a bad call. Boo Hoo 15 yards. Jim

With a phrase like “Boo Hoo 15 yards” you obviously have no idea how much of a difference 15 yards can make. 15 yards is a set of downs and a decent run, or the difference between a team punting and kicking a field goal, the difference between middle of the field and in the red zone, the difference between a win and a loss.
And I’m sorry, but your official team of your friends who consented doesn’t count for squat to me. =)

I’m a 49ers fan, been with them through the glory years and now the gory years, but living in Wa for the past 9 years, 2 here in the Sound I am slowly starting to bleed blue. The only thing I disagree about your statement is that the Steelers played a great game, at least the first half, boy did they stink. Except for the 3 fatal mistakes the Hawks played a stellar game. We will never know if we lost because of those mistakes, or because of the refs, but we sure did not lose because the Steelers played a better game; they just got lucky, and having refs wearing black and yellow underneath the black and white didn’t hurt them either.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved the Steelers, and if they were playing anybody else I would have been cheering them on. But when fans across the board, reporters too are crying foul you know something stank in Detroit

Jesse,
I am a Steelers fan, so I am biased. I do, however, feel for you. If I were a Seahawks fan, I, too, would feel like my team had gotten robbed.
I will limit my comments to verifiable facts. Here is a link to a video of the Jackson pass interference play . Watch the defender’s feet after Jackson “pushes off”. The defender hops backwards. Why would a defender do that unless he was pushed. I hope you’ll at least agree that the ref saw something that caused him to throw the flag, besides Hope’s complaining.
I watched the game in high def, and replayed the Roethlisberger touchdown run many times. I frankly couldn’t see the ball as Ben’s arm crossed the line. Everyone keeps pointing to pictures of the ball crossing the line, but that’s not the ball, it’s Ben’s white arm band. So I can’t say for sure whether the ball crossed the line. I can say for sure that the arm in which Ben was carrying the ball crossed the line. It’s possible that the ball had been dislodged from his arm before it crossed the line, but it’s also possible that it had not been dislodged.
Pittsburgh was 8 for 15 on third down conversions. Of those, with Ben either running, or passing, they were 8 for 13. If you throw out the first quarter, Ben was 8 for 10 on third down conversions. The three big plays that everyone is giving Pittsburgh credit for get all the attention, but Ben’s ability to convert third downs at an 80% rate during the last 75% of the game is why Pittsburgh was able to win.

Jesse,
I am totally in agreeance with you on this one brutha.
The refs were the best players on the Steeler’s team.
As far as I am concerned they should have gotten the MVP trophies.
LOL
“Hey ref, get off your knees, your blowin’ tha game”
As for Shaun, Alexander the Great WILL return to Seattle, and Pittsburg will have NO chance at another Super Bowl any time soon without their precious BUS. With that said, Seattle gave this game to them, because they knew it would be their last. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Wow, what to say. I think this one has been beaten to oblivion. I dont think that the seahawks would have lost if it werent for the zebras here. Tho i am a biased view i still feel i am as valid as anyother. i watched the game and saw some back calls. But the final push was when madden himself from the announcer’s booth compained about the calls on the field. I mean the hawks have already gotten an apology from the NFL once this year, can we make it another? No. The NFL will stand on the calls made as a change of ownership of the trophy would be disasterous. There is no way that there will , or could be a do-over in this case. Tho i believe that the people of the NW deserve it.

Some great points in all of your replies, and I congratulate the Steelers on their 5th SB win, but these are the facts: Roethlisberger DID NOT break the plane, and the quote: “ Ok so you still dont believe he made it. 4th and 1/4 of an inch on the goal, Pittsburg still gets 7” Oh really? The Hawks D stopped the Bus two times inside the three and Roethlisberger once inside the one. Who’s to say, that if the Correct call had been made, and it wasn’t, that the D wouldn’t have shut them down again? and OBVIOUSLY, as proven in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks most certainly could have gone 99 yards down the throat of that lame Pittsburgh defense and the game wouldn’t have even been close at that point. Everybody wants to talk about how the Steelers did AFTER the shitty calls were made. You cannot put a tangible worth on MOMENTUM. Every time Seattle had something going, a touchdown, a goal line stand, a clutch catch at the one, some ticky-tack foul or first year ref call robbed Seattle of their momentum. But yeah, enjoy that win…
Brandon
Feb 10 @ 08:06 PM
I completly agree, its all about momentum. The emotional rollercoaster of the seahawks bench is what lost them the game. If the calls had been balanced on both sides of the ball, the game might have turned out different.

I totally agree. Even Rothlesberger said on Letterman that he didnt make it in. And I’m a life long 49ers fan, so i have no predujuice towards Seattle, i jsut happen to live in the same town. Yes i do cheer for my home town team * I mean who doesn’t whether its YOUR team or not ), but however i bleed Red and Gold. I do think Seattle got robbed. I wont go inot it as its about a week old now and i cant really say anything that hasnt been said before, just wanted to state my opinion.

Not to mention they have a bunch of people who hacve contracts up in the front office and I think it was thier Offense Cord. was interviewing for the Saints and Raiders Head Coach job , and also the many free agents the Steelers have to sign next year.

I was routing for the Steelers until I saw the refs trying to hand them the game. The easiest way to sway a game by a ref is the offennsive holding call. Seatle suffered 3 or 4 of these and all after big plays. These holds can be called on everyplay but Pittsburg wasnt flagged even once for offensive holding? What that tells me is that the refs had an agenda all thier own. Its too bad because this game might have been a nail biter. We all got robbed.

The fact is that the Steelers DID earn victory in SB XL. I have the Steelers entire playoff run on dvd. Clearly the ball breaches the goal line before Ben is down. You claim that the officials were the “12th man on the field”. To that I say, bull. I saw blatant holding committed by your team, right in front of the officials. I saw a push off in the endzone, committed by the Seahawks, again right in front of the official. I also saw the Seahawks fail to execute whhen they needed to. The fact is that the ‘Hawks lost the game NOT because of an alleged “12th man” in the officials, but because they underperformed. It might make things less painful by trying to blame the officials for your team’s loss, but in the end you’re only trying to fool yourself. The Steelers earned that win, and no matter what you say or how loudly you might howl in indignation, you cannot change that fact. Victory: Steelers.

ok for one wen big ben even admits he didnt make it in that means he even knew it was a bad call....there were soo many...the holding the low block the d jack touchdown the goal line bull shit, the hawks got robbed the steelers deserve shit.... there were also a horsecollar on shaun alexander a no call a 39 yrd punt return called back for holding wen there was none a touchdown rite before half down the field to d jack wen his leg hit the pylon and wen i last checked thats a touchdown, the hawks again got screwed worst superbowl ever

Feb 19 @ 06:51 PM
And again you’re wrong. the ball breaches the goal line BEFORE ben is down. That’s a touchdown according to NFL rules. btw Leif, Hasselback was so frustrated by his team’s performence that he picked a fight with a Steeler -and, of course, was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. The ‘Hawks didn’t deserve to win SB XL. Holmgren even failed to manage the time your team had left. Steelers deserve what they got, which was the win. You lack the stones, Leif, to admit your team flat-out screwed itself. Deal with it.

Leiflet, if you knew anything about football instead of being such a candyassed retard, you’d know the Steelers earned the victory. I have the Steelers playoff run on dvd. The ‘Hawks pushed off in the endzone right in front of the official. He had no choice except to throw the flag. Again, holding against Seattle, directly in front of the official. Blatant holding, as in reaching up under the jersey and grabbing a good handful of shoulder pad and steering the Steeler player to the ground. Seattle committed awful time management as well. They failed to execute whan they needed to. But of course, morons like you will continue to blame the SeaSquawks’ lack of effectiveness on the officials, the Steelers -anyone but the Seasquawks. Because if you dared to face reality, little man, you would then have to admit what I already know: that you’re fucking full of shit.

Mar 21 @ 07:18 PM
dude...did u check the site d jack was grabeed he exteneded his arm to get out of the hold go to the site and ik more about football then u can imagine yes the steelers deserved to be there they had a great run one the best ever but not the superbowl win yes the seahawks had mistakes but so didnt the stealers big ben played like shit two interception and seriously check the damn site read the whole thing and if u had n e balls u would read the whole thing i have 5 times and it all makes sense everyone not a stealer fan would agree the hawks r the best of 05 every one knows y cant u…
Rob Adcox
Mar 29 @ 03:35 PM
The Steelers weren’t the ones who pushed off in the endzone in front of the official. The Steelers didn’t commit holding in front of the official. The Steelers didn’t fail to manage their time of play. The Steelers didn’t fail to execute when they needed to. But we see that the ‘Hawks did do these things, which cost them the game. You say the Steelers played like shit? Go back and watch the game again. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Dean
Mar 30 @ 10:06 PM
OK. so the ‘Hawks got screwed, it’s over but this bullshit where steeler players sit here and talk shit on how there so great where they couldn’t do jack in the first half. “Big Ben” didn’t cross the goalline. do you see the ball cross the line? NO. do you see his arm cross the line? yes. is it a td because of the guys arm? NO. To the refs, yes and that is why seattle got screwed. Anything that was questionable the refs gave to pittsburgh and that is no bull. It is very obvious so those of you who felt pittsburgh did so good don’t know shit!
So much for a repeat! big ben couldn’t hardly throw the ball this year without it being picked off. THE pittsburgh steelers are really gonna suck this year simply because ben dosent have enough players to make up for his shitty play.
Rob Adcox
Apr 01 @ 02:45 AM
The ball breached the outermost plane of the goal line before Ben was down by contact. That is a touchdown by the NFL rulebook. Dean, if anyone’s talking shit, it’s you Seattle fans who are STILL crying and bitching like schoolgirls on the rag. The Steelers won the game FAIR AND SQUARE. You Seahag fans have proven your utter lack of class (and balls) by your nonstop whining. btw if the best the NFC can do is the Seachickens, then the AFC is gonna romp in SB 42. wait a min rob.... dean ur absolutely rite...o yea and if the steelers had all the same calls and played like the seahawks did all of pittsburg would be whining and crying and having a huge fit.....and to tell me idk shit ive seen that game prolly somewhere around 25 times and all the bad plays about 100 times no lie...i know wut im talking about ive been all football everyday i know more then u will ever know… it was so obvious that there was bad calls seriously check out the fucking site if u have any balls cuz i think ur scarred that seattle is rite and to tell us we dont have class...i bet u all of seattle will agree that u guys had a great great playoff run i agree but the way they played in the superbowl they didnt deserve the win the seahawks made plays all day long they were just takin back by the refs so all was shown was bad plays come on u can start by admitting the obvious there were all bad calls
Dean
Apr 01 @ 06:27 PM
well rob if your so damn smart then why on the play where ben dives for the endzone, arms outstretched, does the ball come up short? He picks it up and puts it in the endzone. oh yeah i know why, because this guy named leroy hill spears ben and he comes up short. maybe if you would pull your head out of your ass you would see that. oh no. all i wanted out of superbowl XL was a good football game. did that happen? no. The officiating sucked and everyone feels that pittsburgh did such a great job. BULL SHIT. who scored first? seattle. who had more takeaways? Seattle. Who had the better qb? Seattle. speaking of balls if you had any you’d realize the steelers won simply because the refs gave them some help. nope you guys won’t admit it. The steelers did NOT play that great, but yes they had two plays that won them the game. the reason pittsburgh never won a super bowl until now is because they talked shit. they lost in ‘04, ‘01, ‘97,’95 all in the AFC title game because they talked a bunch of shit and then got their ass beat. what happened in the 1st quarter of SB XL? STEELERS SUCKED BALLS!
Until Pittsburgh gets fucked over in a super bowl, you’ll never know what it feels like to work so hard for nothing. our whole season was wasted just so some refs could hear their voice heard.
i wouldn’t count on seeing the steelers in the super bowl for awhile....
Leif Long

exactly...dean ur absolutely rite i mean if the stealer beat us fair and square but if we get screwed then i get pissed we worked hard just to have some bull shit game dean is absolutely rite and rob the stealers suck ablls they had no game in superbowl XL at least 90% of america agrees with seattle so go ahead have ur cheap ass win cuz everyone believes the seahawks were the best team in 05 cuz they were and i know it all of seattle knows it andf oyea ben didnt get in he even admitted it on national tv how can u explain that?

Apr 01 @ 08:06 PM
leif, you definetly have a point. I read a vote on the internet where a little over 100,000 people particiapted. 80,000 said they felt the officiating affected the outcome. 13,000 said steelers won fair and square and 7,000 said they didn’t care. Pretty big when 8 out of 10 people felt the game was screwed. many people i talked to said they were big steeler fans but wanted seattle to win after seeing the refs basically hand them the game. It is too unfortunate that it had to happen to seattle.

seattle can kick some ass if they address the offensive line properly. another guard or tackle and they should be in business. add a tight end and zoom- playoff time. i think we could have went to the super bowl last year if everyone was healthy. it was too much inconsistency. but they played a great game against the bears. if they would’ve won i would laugh at every bears fan on the planet!
Leif Long
Apr 07 @ 01:20 PM
lol me too they were just out of sink and and now we got safeties who can cover plus we get mike green back and he looked unbelieveable in preseason our needs a big guy up front and our offensive line i think should be good becuz chris gray is coming back and the only problem left is left guard but rob sims came in as a rookie last year and now we know hes gonna most likely start we can work with him even more so our offensive libne looks good....with our tight end situation we have fixed that problem but its not long term its short term and marcuz pollard has good hands and is consitent yes hes old but he has kept himself in great shape, but i think we can get some players in the draft and we could have a great run to another superbowl this year and not have to deal with the shitty refs....u know last year wen we got deion branch we nvr could use our great 4 reciever set and have a great backfield cuz someone was hrt if we keep d jack we will use it and it will be fierce for sure, should be a great season...i wonder who we could get comming draft day and will we keep darrell jackson??
Dean
Apr 07 @ 07:54 PM
it’s likely darrell jackson is going to be traded. we have alot of talent at the receiver position. deion branch, dj hackett, bobby engram, and some other guys. if we do trade him, it will be for a low draft pick and some other guy. or 1 high draft pick. too bad jermey stevens was a dope and got arrested. has lots of talent, little brains though. the future looks bright and we play pittsburgh in pittsburgh this year. defensive tackle marcus tubbs might be able to stay healthy. that would be a HUGE plus.
Leif Long
Apr 08 @ 02:48 PM
o big time hes the big man up front that this team lacks cant wait for the game in pitt… we also have the great special teamer nate burleson also playin receiver.....we have 5 or six more good years left in us in shaun and matt but by then we will have a good replacements and plus we got young probowl talent so this team has a long long bright future ahead....
Rob Adcox
Apr 09 @ 05:31 PM
On the dvd I have the ball breaches the goal line before he’s down by contact. Ruling is: touchdown Ben. Maybe one day the NFL will install cameras directly overhead of the goal line so that everyone will know for certain whether or not a player scores. In the meantime, if you have a problem with the officiating (I have, on occasion) and the league doesn’t want to fix the problem, maybe they’ll listen to a boycott of ticket sales, NFL-licensed merchandise, and tv ratings. Since you feel as strongly as you obviously do about the SB, you might consider witholding your money from the league for a season. Like any business, the NFL WILL sit up and take notice if thousands of fans suddenly stop supporting it financially. Sure beats sitting around and bitching.
Leif Long
Apr 09 @ 05:36 PM
ok rob it sure does but the NFL has billions and it dont care about thatseahawks fans dont make up majority of the population there r 32 other teams who still like it and it wont work but yea the stealers had an awesome run im not trying to put them down im just saying they didnt play well enough to win just look at the stats and bithcing is all we as fans can do and make sure th NFL nvr lives it down
Rob Adcox
Apr 11 @ 05:48 PM
Fair enough, Leif. I know we disagree about the game. The Steelers only played well enough to win, not to look stellar. But I truly believe that if the fans of a team boycott the games then the league will be forced financially to look into the situation. Keep in mind that the NFL needs your money far more than you need the NFL. That’s the reality of it. Hey, a lot of people began to turn away from NASCAR races because they became disgusted with how the drivers were acting like punks. NASCAR began to lose money and fewer people were watching the races on tv. NASCAR wisely decided to get its drivers under control, thereby cutting its losses. And more people watch NASCAR races than any other sport in the country. (As an aside, the smallest track in the organization seats approx. 100,000). Sports organizations are businesses. They might initially appear not to be responsive to fan demands, but they WILL respond to ticket/merchandise sales or lack thereof.
Leif Long
Apr 11 @ 06:10 PM

All anyone can hope for is a good season and better officials. Calls do matter. Like in the SB. If the officials say Ben Roethlisberger is down 1/4th of an inch from the goal line, 99.9% of the time it will still be 7 points. BUT what if they they hand it off to the bus and he fumbles like in Indi. There is always a .01% chance something could happen: bad snap, fumble, interception, incompletion, false start, etc. It could have made a difference. it’s all good though. good luck to the steelers and seahawks. wouldn’t it be interesting if they met in a SB again?

Jun 07 @ 04:06 PM
I’d like to see PROFESSIONAL officials make the calls, rather than the part-timers who officiate. The refs we have now don’t seem to have a clue half the time.
Dean
Jul 01 @ 07:20 PM
It makes me upset how they just don’t care if it is right or wrong. The NFL should hold referee’s somewhat accountable. I mean, how much $ are these guys making?
Dean
Jul 11 @ 06:42 PM
Hands down the worst super bowl in nfl history. everyone got cheated, coaches, fans, players, etc. why did this happen? do the officials have the balls to tell anyone what a shitty job they did? has one official even admitted to maybe making a wrong call? NOPE. No skin off their nose, no ring off their finger, no trophy out of their case. they don’t care, the cheap assholes!!!
Rob Adcox
Jul 17 @ 03:08 PM
Oh God Dean. Give it a rest already! The ‘Hawks WEREN’T CHEATED. The Steelers won fair and square. How many times does it have to be said that Hasselback threw key INT’s? Or that Locklear committed holding in front of the official? Or that Holmgren sucked when it came to clock management? I know, you’re going to say “Boo-hoo. Roethlisberger was given the TD by the officials.” Bullshit. The ball beached the outer plane of the goal line before he was ever down by contact. Why can’t you admit that your team screwed itself?
Dean
Jul 21 @ 05:54 PM
Hasselbeck threw one pick against bens 2 so learn what actually happened. While your at it why don’t you look at what the definitions of holding are. Sean Locklear made it look like a hold, but according to the RULEBOOK it was NOT HOLDING. Did he ride the defender around? No. Did he hold him in one spot? No. And on bens run you cannot see the ball but you can see the glove and it didn’t cross the goal line so the ball couldn’t either. But if it took shitty officiating and that much luck for the steelers to win a super bowl, let alone get to one, i wouldn’t count on seeing the steelers on the spotlight for awhile.
Rob Adcox
Jul 23 @ 04:16 PM
The bigger point as far as I’m concerned is that you’ve been whining about the officiating of SB XL for almost a year and a half. Just for that, I hope Michael Vick comes to Seattle and the ‘Hawks pay him $131,000,000.
Leif Long
Jul 23 @ 04:23 PM
ok im back in this again and i guess we still dont agree obviously but i have to agree with dean cuz one hes a hawks fan like me and hes right...i mean yes it a long time ago but hey we still here ppl say that the steelers are the champs i mean a superbowl is the biggest game ever it will be a scar on hawks fans FOREVER.....i will admit we did have mistakes but notice wen we dint have have a mistake???? that was wen the refs held us back wen we made good plays thats y ppl only remember the bad plays cuz they took away our bad plays and yes deam is rite it wasnt holding textbook blocking i saw the rulebook too i mean we should of had more points im not trying to dis the stealers just the refs but dnt be dissing the hawks im mean theyre were bttr we had the league MVP on our side we outgained them in every stat category except the score nvr had that happened before in superbowl history...plus if the refs didnt hold us back we would of had an NFL record of most total yrds in a game....just sayin....Hawks will be back in 07 stealers wont....go hawks
Dean
Jul 26 @ 06:42 PM
Yes this has gone on a little too far. The bottom line is seattle will be remembered for losing and pittsburgh will be remembered for the good playoff run but not for being SB champs. no we haven’t whined about the officiating we’ve disagreed about it. You talk about us seattle fans bitching and moaning if pittsburgh would have lost it would be WW3 out there! oh well. leif has a great point we were better than them in every stat except the score, and i know, your going to say that’s the biggest stat but the refs were the biggest factor. take them out and the bus is still sitting in detroit crying like he has for years.
Dean
Jul 26 @ 06:43 PM
Another thing that upsets me is like 4 of the refs were Pittsburgh natives. Isn’t that a conflict of interest?
Tom Riordan
Jul 27 @ 02:37 AM
I agree as full-hearted hawks fan that super bowl XL will always hold a scar from happenings which everyone has argued. But my faith in this team supersedes an allegations of doubt. A comeback is imminent. A struggle back to the top is how Seattle teams get it done. With little recognition that is ever lacking in the press and on ESPN. And respect is hardly received. I have seen the hard wins and sat through the obvious losses. I saw ticket prices raise from $14 dollars a seat at the beginning of the ’05 season to $60 dollars a seat at the end of regular season. For us as fans to earn that respect, a consistent fan base is elementary. Unfortunately that Seahawk foundation began in 2005 when it should have founded in 1986 when the super bowl was closest to our finger tips. We have our team and they’ll be ours in years to come. Lets stay with them. I say this because it is obvious Seattle is not known for our Football, Basketball, or Baseball. What I’m getting at is the time for us Seattle fans is now. We have a job to do. To make this team flourish, we lift up our team after losses, and at Qwest field lets make it so they can’t shut us up. Either it be Alexander fumbling or Hasselbeck throwing an interception. Don’t give them an inch of silence. Silence when the offense is on the field, and let it out when they’re off. I won’t let this flame go out as I have regrettably done in the past for the Sonics after they lost it to the Bulls in ‘95 finals. And let the Mariners reign dwindle after their lost on the road to the world series in ‘01 to the Yankees. These all are relevant scars which yield bitterness and disbelief in my teams. My actions are now, however, subdued by this realization of what is in front of us now. We have the team they have our support LETS KEEP IT GOING!! Lets suck up all of those let downs that seem to keep us back. And know that a loss at home is not them letting us down but rather us letting them down.
I encourage all of you hawks fans to take this in and spread it around. Makes this season the best from start to finish no matter what the outcome because this is our job and if we want that national respect LETS EARN IT!!
GO HAWKS!!!!!!
Dean
Jul 27 @ 12:31 PM

Oh Rob you must remember, 4 WINS WON’T WIN JACK SQUAT. SEASON AINT OVER BUDDY. There’s lots of football left. No, you don’t get a ring for the win or a trophy just some bragging rights.

steelers did have great d but 4-1 dosen’t get mean anything. nor does 3-2.
Rob Adcox
Oct 09 @ 08:18 PM
Was sorry to hear about Mack Strong but he made the right choice to retire from the game and be with his family. I hope his spine will be okay. Just hearing about tingling down both arms and legs is scary. Dean, as for bragging rights, I was having some fun. It was only one regular season game and I’m proud of the Steelers, but that pales in comparison to Strong’s injury. I hope he heals fully.
Dean
Oct 10 @ 07:20 PM
Yes that is true. You guys were the better team and it was clear. And yes it was sad to hear that happen to mack. He was a very classy player and i wish him the best. I just hope seattle and pittsburgh don’t slump. i hate seeing stupid teams like new england always come away with the gold.

Oh man if the SteElers beat the Pats I’m going to laugh in the faces of every arrogant Patsy fan I meet. I’m tired of the contemptuous smirk on Belicheat’s face. I sure hope we can erase it this season. Well, erase either the smirk or his tapes…

I hear you there Rob, I hear you there. Makes you wonder what BeliCHEAT did in the playoffs… hmmm…
Rob Adcox
Oct 25 @ 07:54 PM
It’s getting grim here on the east coat. Every sports announcer shorts out his or her microphone with drool when worshipping Tom Brady every single day. You would think that by now someone might have noticed how weak the AFC East is. All the Patsies have to do is beat their division rivals and win two games outside their division, and just like that they’re in the playoffs again. They beat the Cowboys, which was impressive (assuming, of course, that BelliCHEAT wasn’t taping again). btw Super Bowl XL was revenge for the drubbing your team gave my Steelers in ‘99 in Pittsburgh. (I was at that game. The score was 29-10 Seahawks. Kordell Stewart only threw interceptions. The food sucked. People were booing. I was mad.)
Leif Long

Oct 30 @ 05:24 PM
My bet is the Pats fall flat on their face come the big playoff games. I hate how everyone is obssessed with their offense. yes it is great and could challenge the ‘98 Vikings record of 556 points in a year but does that make them the champs already? NO. they are good because they have beaten ONE decent team in the cowboys. everyone else has a losing record. they need to quit counting their chickens before they hatch. The patriots are up to something. I just hope they don’t become the 2nd undefeated team in the history of the NFL.
I will say this: If there is one team in the AFC with a chance to beat them it is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Rob Adcox
Oct 30 @ 05:36 PM
Thanks Dean.
I emailed the local ESPN radio station the other day, because even they are on the “worship Brady” bandwagon. It’s sickening. I told them that the Pats are overrated.
They responded on the air with much anger and hatred toward me, because I actually DARED to remind them that there are a number of teams fully capable of kicking New England ass.
After their rant, I emailed them again and offered to send them some lipstick and kneepads for the next time they give Tom Brady “lip service”.
Dean
Oct 31 @ 07:41 PM
Yeah The Pats have everyone kissing their ass in week 8, it’s pathetic. If not disgusting. But anyone can beat New England it’s a matter of how. I don’t care about New England I just want the ‘Hawks to do well. Maybe the injury bug will hit New england. That will take the wind out of their sails.

Yeah Dean, I used to hate the Browns until they moved to Baltimore. This new Browns doesn’t piss me off the way the old one did, although their fans are still retarded. I really hate the Ravens. I guess that will be evident when they check their voicemail tomorrow morning. Bart Scott says he’s going to kill Hines Ward. Uh huh. Hey Bart, how did it feel to get JACKED UP by a RECEIVER? Bah.

Dammit I am so disappointed in you Pittsburgh. I really thought you would shove that game right down that little playboy tom brady’s throat. He is such a bitch.
Rob Adcox
Dec 11 @ 09:08 PM
Yeah, I’m disappointed in the Steelers too. I thought the Ravens had Tommi Brady beat. I was very impressed by how well they played against the Cheatriots.
Interestingly, though, whenever we beat the Patsies in the regular season we lose to them in the playoffs. Maybe this time we’ll beat them in the playoffs, but I’d sooner lay odds that our politicians will all suddenly become honest and ethical overnight.
Dean
Dec 11 @ 10:22 PM
Yeah you can’t say Pittsburgh didn’t try. Of course, every “sports analyst” if thats what you call them, critizied whats his name for gauranteeing the win. Hey you gotta show some confidence when you play great teams. Its better than sulking in corner. I cant stand how they drool over Tom Brady. There are 31 other teams out there. Just cause they score a lot of points proves...? The good news Rob, it’s better to lose to New England now and learn from the loss, and come back in January and knock them off on their duff. If Pittsburgh sees them again, it won’t be such the happy ending for ol tommy brady.
oh and go seahawks on the 4th straight division title. congrats Pittsburgh for their 4th playoff appearance in 6 years. maybe they will prove new england isn’t invisible.
Leif
Dec 15 @ 04:37 PM

Rob Adcox
Dec 15 @ 05:11 PM
Yeah,
I don’t hate the Pats, but I hate the fact that the entire sports media acts like we’re all required to bow down and worship Tom Fuckin’ Brady. From Tony Kornheiser to ESPN’S “The Herd” to every writer on staff at SI, all you ever hear about is the Pats and their “perfect season”.
I hope that if the Steelers don’t get to the SB that the ‘Hawks do, and just to piss off the sports media I hope you win in overtime on a safety.
Dean
Dec 15 @ 09:21 PM
Thank you Rob. That would be funny as hell if New England lost to a safety. Pittsburgh has a great chance of getting back. They can beat any team in the AFC. They are easily the # 2 team as far as I’m concerned.

Rob Adcox
Dec 16 @ 07:11 PM
I think I’m having a major change in my worldview regarding the NFL. A couple of years ago a lot of folks were saying that SB XL was rigged and I laughed in their faces. But now -shit. Leif, you ask what’s going on. Maybe you have a good question there. How many times have the Patsies gotten good breaks from the officials this season? And how many times have teams like the Ravens come close to beating them before “making a mistake” and “losing” the game?
I thought that the Steeler/Seahawk game was legit, and I defended the Steelers as well as I could. But now, I’m beginning to see things the way Leif does, and I’m beginning to ask myself: What the hell is going on?
If the fix is in, as they used to say, why is New England getting all the breaks? This crap has been going on since the “Tuck rule”.
I mean, the market share for Patsy merchandise CAN’T be all that popular outside the Atlantic Northeast. On the other hand, where I live (Virginia), there are a number of Seahawks fans, and an absolute TON of Steelers fans, even though Pittsbvurgh is some 400 miles from here. There are FAR more ‘Hawks fans here than there are Pats fans, even though the New England area is a lot closer.
One begins to wonder if the league isn’t in it to serve themselves. But a better answer would be that the odds makers are making money from infecting the league, running the tables, and pocketing untold millions from unsuspecting fans and bettors.
If any of this is true, then we’re all screwed. It would mean that every season, every playoff game, and every SB game is bogus, at least as far back as 2001 and probably long before.
I’ve seen too many instances this season that looked entirely suspect. I’ve seen the Steelers, the Dolphins, the Jets, and the Ravens all roll over and play dead as if on cue to the Patsies.
I went back and looked at the SB XL dvd I have and looked at some calls. While I still think Roethlisberger makes it into the endzone, I now question the pushoff in the endzone being called on Seattle by the official. Yes, it was technically a pushoff, but the contact was so minimal that the official would never have tossed the flag had it been a regular season game. The Steelers committed holding on one occasion that I saw, but it was never called. Hmm.
I want to be a football fan. I want to cheer on the Steelers as i’ve always done. But now I must ask myself, as does Leif: What the hell is happening here? Either this is a contest of rules or it isn’t. And if those rules aren’t enforced objectively, then there isn’t any point to supporting the NFL anymore than I would “wrestling”.
Man, I’m not whining here. But doesn’t it seem just a little coincidental that the winner of the SB is now being predicted before the preseason even begins?!
Leif
Dec 16 @ 07:34 PM
exactly thank u so much this is exactly wut i cnt stand about the NFL and i hate u took the words rite out of my mouth it is rediculous and i wish there was sumthing we could do but of course nothingbecuz the only thing we coulkd do is file a complaint and email the NFL which wil only be read by like computers and things or sumthing minimal so it wont mtr but thank u cuz u seem to understand my point it is jst flat out rediculous
Dean
Dec 17 @ 06:35 PM
YES YES THAT IS IT! Well you know that dipshit Mike “Baghdad Bob” Peirara the director of officiating knows that this whole unbeaten New england deal is bringing in alot of $$$$. So bascially the officials are doing everything so they get as much money in their pockets as possible. Back to Mike, he is a freakin little girl. when asked a couple years ago why the officiating of the super bowl was so bad, here’s what he specifically said:
“ The game was properly officiated, and as in most games, there were some tight calls that caused disagreement by both sides”.
If that dosen’t sound like a script out of a book, I don’t know what is. The Pats have ALWAYS seemed to get breaks from the officials except for the game two years ago against the Broncos but oh well you have 3 super bowl rings shut the F$%@ up. They get a greasy, lucky “tuck rule” call. god i want to puke everytime I see that.
Leif
Dec 18 @ 07:05 PM
ok they wanted the colts to go back in 05 remember troy polomalus interception and all the other bad calls well they tried to give it to the colts and then wen the steelers rightfully beat them they went to the superbowl and everything and not to take n e thing away from the steelers they r a good team and its not there fault the refs were bad and they knew noone wnted to see a team in pacific northwest win cuz not alot of fans care about seattle...and cuz the steelers are a popular american team and wut a story...3 road wins AND win the superbowl...thats wut i think that happened
Dean
Dec 19 @ 08:51 PM
My good god what is happening to the NFL?
I don’t know if you guys watched MNF with the vikings but there were alot of calls against the bears. ALOT. And like 2 against the vikings so I don’t know what has happened. Oh and that was a tough game against pittsburgh jacksonville. good job. I can’t believe the refs won’t let the guys just play good smash mouth football. No it’s you cant hit this, can’t block that. Give me a break.
Rob Adcox
Dec 19 @ 09:03 PM
Thanks guys.
It’s like the NFL has become less of a sport and more of a drama. I love smash-mouth football too. I love seeing good blocking running backs can run into (and sometimes over) linebackers. I also love the west coast style of blasting the ball for 40 yds in the air. Mainly, though, I love a good defense. NOTHING is as exciting to me as a ball being intercepted with the game on the line.
Now the NFL seems to want to choreograph the games so as to maximize sales -even if that means making sure the “right” teams wins.
This is getting out of control. If this keeps up I may have to settle for rugby, and scrums are just weird.
Dean
Dec 19 @ 09:14 PM
Ya the refs are like little kids at school. Give them a little peer pressure and they will fold everytime. What really pisses me off is they act like it’s really no big deal. They are the leader of the land, the head honchos. Did you hear about the ref they hired who had a history of gambling and betting on games and was a convicted child abuser??? What is wrong anymore???
Dean

Rob Adcox
Jan 06 @ 07:54 PM
lol…
I like playing against J’ville. They ALWAYS play a scrappy game against us, and win or lose, it’s always entertaining.
I hope the Pats go to the Super Bowl and lose in overtime on a SAFETY. I am sick to death of having the entire sports media constantly telling me that I’m required to worship the Patsies. Belicheat gets caught spying on other teams, so naturally the AP votes him *Coach of The Year*. Naturally.
Will anyone at ESPN ever understand that without Moss, Brady’s pass rating plummets? Nah. They’re too busy breaking out the Chapstick and kneepads.
Rob Adcox
Jan 06 @ 08:02 PM
BTW, isn’t it interesting that the Pats have such a soft schedule for next year? Apparently a lot of people are betting on other teams to beat the Pats in hopes of making the $$$ via the longshot. Vegas will really be raking it in next year! Everyone on the east coast, at least outside of the New England area, is beginning to hate the Pats.
Has anyone seen the new Lombardi trophy design if the Pats win? It stands about 14” high and is shaped like this: *
Dean
Jan 06 @ 08:56 PM
Anyone give any credit to the Pats offensive line? Without them Tom Brady is not nearly as good. They say in Dallas Tony gets too much credit well the same goes for Tom Brady. He is only great because of all the great players around him.

NYAAAAA!
I honestly believe he got the ball across the line, but even if I’m wrong, it isn’t like the Steelers didn’t have another chance to get in.
But if it makes you feel better, the score is: Steelers 14, Seahawks 10.
What is needed (other than better officiating) is better camera angles. Why not have cameras directly over the goal lines? I believe this would clarify situations like the one you refer to. And WHEN is the league going to fire Pete Moreli, the worst official wearing the stripes today?
BTW, I’m still glowing about the Pats loss. >sigh

This is it. It shows him short by about 3-5 inches.

The pic is inconclusive; He was never down by contact. Excellent try, though.
You guys hear about the dumb Patriots fan who was killed in a helicopter accident? He got cold, so he turned off the fan.

WTF are you looking at? The ball is clearly short, he has a knee down and three defenders are touching him! Inconclusive? WTF!

Ok the knee isn’t quite down but the elbow is and that is all that matters.

Does anyone have any Kleenex? Tom Brady asked.

Tom Brady needs to shut the hell up. He can just go suck his thumb in the corner and count the diamonds on his rings.

Amen to that, Dean! The total arrogance of the Patsies had me puking throughout the entire season. What was worse was the sports media’s collective hardon for Tom Brady. ESPN was the worst; I bet Mike & Mike got their tongues pierced in anticipation of the SB.

A conversation between Brady and his lady: “Tommy, why do my tits look so square?” Answers Tom, “Honey, I think you’re supposed to take the tissues out of the box first!”

Unless they learn the balance on offensive they will never win the super bowl again. If they let Tom throw it around next year like he did this year he will have easily 6 more ints.

After all the losses, they still say the Pats are the team to beat. GIVE ME A BREAK!!

If the Steelers don’t make it to the SB this year (and I don’t see that happening given our O-line performance last season), and if the ‘Hawks do make it to the SB, I will cheer on the ‘Hawks. I’d love to see the Patsies lose another SB. Watching Shady Brady get sacked 5 times was the highlight of the entire season.

I’d wouldn’t mind a rematch with the black and gold…
but i doubt the hawks make it there. Offensive line isn’t good enough and we could use a good tight end.
What is funny is, Cris Carter, (off of “Inside the NFL"), jynxed Tom Brady. He said “… how many super bowls can the guy win? 5? 6? And become the greatest qb ever? He’ll have a 4th at the end of this year”.
Thank you for jynxing them cris :-)
jerome's a bitch

fuck the steelers they played awful in that game. i mean your qb had the worst stats of a super bowl winning qb ever. the stripes won it so that huge CUNT jerome b could win a super bowl disgusting. there were two standards of penalties in this game. The steelers, who could do as they pleased, and the seahawks, who couldn’t do anything until Pitt had a comfortable lead.
