AT&T Fixes Paper Billing

Apparently AT&T finally got the hint that maybe sending out paper bills with several tens of pages (and even hundreds for some heavy txters) wasn’t such a good idea. I just received a txt from AT&T informing me that they will be significantly reducing the amount of reported data in their paper bills. Only took them several million needless tree deaths to figure it out!

Testing “Postie” Plugin

photo.jpg

Yes, another possibly annoying iPhone blogging test, this time using a hacked (to work with wordpress 2.1) version of Postie. This potentially could be the solution I’m looking for as long as I can iron out a couple of little details.

My iPhone Bill Arrived

At a mere 32 pages, my stack of useless papers informed me of basically nothing. Apparently I use my data plan a LOT.

Let’s see if I can bump it up to 50 pages next month!

Also, thanks to Nick for an easier way to blog from my iPhone. Hopefully Flickr will be the solution I’m looking for.

Testing Photos From iPhone

UPDATE

Whoah… sending photos to Wordpress from my iPhone definitely does not work. At least not with the ease of sending through email.  I wonder if there’s another simple hack to get photos in blog posts from my iPhone.

Hmm…

iPhone Blogging Test

I was suddenly wondering if blogging from my iPhone could be a viable
option for the future. So this attempt #1.

Move along, move along.

Hard Drive Be Dead

So my hard-drive failed on me.

I was in the middle of designing the maps for my wedding invitations when my entire system completely locked up.  First I thought it was just Illustrator but then I realized that my MenuMeters wasn’t updating and the time wasn’t even adjusting. So I did a quick hard reboot only to be served with the blinking Question Folder of Death. After another subsequent reboot or so in desparation hoping it would will itself back to life, I heard the awful *clunk, clunk, clunk* sound coming from my hard-drive.

Now I’m a pretty avid backup person, usually backup a couple times a week to make sure a hard-drive failure like this doesn’t destroy me. Unfortunately, since I’ve moved several months ago I hadn’t taken the time to setup my backup technique and therefore, I’m hosed.

Months of photos, design work, business papers, addresses, RSS feeds, and my freaking wedding invititation designs (which luckily had finished printing mere hours before it died) all gone forever.

Picking Up The Pieces

So now I’m back on my originally tiny 60gb MacBook hard-drive (as opposed to my previous 100gb) and pretty much all my old stuff is gone.

Through the mourning however, there is a little bit of joy in the freshness of a new clean install. And I can’t quite decide if losing all my old RSS feeds (over 200) is a huge loss or a great relief.

Well, I gotta run, it’s about time for a backup sync.

Changes (that’s just the way it is)

So after having used Twitter and seeing the new power in it as a new forum for MiniPosts, I see that it does a better job for the “Musing, Links, Etc” than what I had previously set up, especially since now I can easily update it from the road using my phone iPhone.

Also, after getting massively hit on some older “junk” posts (McPheever, 122 Reasons Not To Buy A PS3) I’ve decided to start throwing up some AdSense ads to see if I can actually pickup any revenue on them. I figure this way the ads aren’t annoying for my regular readers (which is why I took ads down after trying them out over a year ago) but I can maybe pick up a few extra bucks from the “content leechers” (I kid, I kid...) who aren’t regular readers but just grabbed a pageview from some random google search.

This helped motivate my move to twitter as opposed to my previous solution using the MiniPosts plugin which is apparently incompatible with the adsense-deluxe plugin. Go figure.

Anyways, on the “life” front I’ve been super busy with a new job, moving, planning a wedding, etc… I’ve got a bunch of posts sketched out (including tons of reviews) and I hope to start nailing out some good content, etc in next few days/weeks.

Rock.

REVIEW: Ratatouille

5 / 5 stars

Ratatouille

A masterpiece.

I had little hope for this movie as the trailers just didn’t look that good or funny to me. My remaining thought was “well, it’s Pixar so it can’t be that bad.” After 2 friends with very different taste in movie recommended it, I had to see what the big deal was.

Oh, how misleading the lackluster trailer was. I will say that I do not think Ratatouille is the best Pixar movie, nor do I think it is the funniest. But this movie stands apart from the rest as a true piece of art. The animation and 3D work in this movie is absolutely amazing, from the intricate details of rat hair to the way the food looks absolutely delicious… and let me not forget absolutely the finest 3D rendering of water yet to grace the movie screen.

But this is just the icing on the cake. The story definitely steals the show here as it is truly beautiful and genuinely heart-felt. I was moved by the ending of this film, which is more than I can say for most animated movies, heck, most movies in general. This is the first animated film that truly doesn’t belong in the “animated film” category but can stand with the big boys. I hope someone else feels the same when Academy season comes around and gives this film the credit it deserves.

Highly, highly, highly recommended.

— In line, iPhone soon…

In line, iPhone will soon be in my hands (if they have enough at the Alderwood Apple Store).  Sweetness! Photos to be uploaded later. Currently they’ve provided us with water bottles and are currently taking orders to get all of us free coffees from Starbucks! Score!

— If you haven’t heard Damien…

If you haven’t heard Damien Rice’s new song “9 Crimes” you seriously need to go check it out. It’s so hauntingly beautiful, just tugs on the emotions. Amazing.
