The Island

3 (out of 4) This is just your straight up action flick with enough interesting plot to keep it on running on both feet. You’ll need to your willing suspension of disbelief for some of what these characters survive through, but when you do it is totally worth the ride. The hi-tech design of the spartan society was stand-out great.

Hitch

3 (out of 4) Hilarious, full of good Will Smith witty banter.  All of the funniest scenes were in the previews, but for a chick-flik, this was pretty decent.

I (heart) Huckabees

4 (out of 4) Go buy this movie now. Weird, original, bizarre and hilarious. Props go to Mark Wahlberg for playing my favorite character in a movie this year.

Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb

1 (out of 4) Maybe I just didn’t get this movie… It was short but felt long, simple but confusing, interesting but dull. Mostly it barely held my attention, it just sort of kept going with nothing interesting really happening.

Friday Night Lights

1 (out of 4) Decent football movie. The characters were all very one-dimensional, I didn’t really care for any of them much and the story was only average. Overall though, I was entertained. Worth the watch - But you won’t find it in my DVD collection.

Closer

1 (out of 4) To me, this was a bad movie done really well.  The directing, cinematography, and acting were all superb… but I hated the plot and, by the end, every character as well. This movie barely earns it’s 1 star.

Donnie Darko

4 (out of 4) This movie is really bizarre, and I loved every bit of it. Begins to lose its edge after seeing it a few times. Features a 6-foot demonic bunny rabbit.

Cellular

3 (out of 4) Lot better than I thought it was going to be. Required some willing suspension of disbelief, but definitely paid off. This movie was a non-stop ride.

Annie Hall

2 (out of 4) I usually don’t like Woody Allen muh at all, but this Annie Hall had enough humor and interesting dialogue to keep me entertained throughout the flick.  Some original ideas in this movie but, I really have no idea how this won an academy award. Must’ve been a bad year for movies.

Batman Begins

4 (out of 4) Batman is back, and this time Joel Schumacher isn’t around to screw it up. Instead, Batman Begins takes a new darker spin with one of my favorite directors, Christopher Nolan (the man behind Memento). Batman, who has always been my favorite comic book character, has finally been done right.
