Lost: Questions & More

Lost finally returns tonight!  I’d been slowly working on posting another huge post on Lost but I got busy with life and so I’m forced to update without as complete of a post as I woudl’ve hoped.  Still, hopefully a lot of good info and introspetion for other Losties in here.

The following may contain spoilers

First off here are a few of interesting articles on Lost:

LOST Creators: We know where we’re going

The producers of “Lost” are looking to set a precise end-date for ABC’s Emmy-winning thriller, which some critics say has lost its way this season.

A time line would help the show’s creative team plot out the final story arcs of the marooned plane-crash survivors, executive producer Carlton Cuse told reporters Sunday.

“It’s time for us now to find an end point for this show,” Cuse said during ABC’s portion of the Television Critics Assn. winter press tour in Pasadena. “It’s always been discussed that the show would have a beginning, middle and end.”

LOST: Which way will it go?.

The fall arc created an unexpected clash of expectations with too little time to tell too many stories.

Cuse and Lindelof felt the need to pick up the story of Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway), who were kidnapped by The Others in last May’s cliffhanger. They also wanted to shine some light on The Others, whose shadowy presence has raised questions since Season 1.

That left little time for longtime favorites such as Hurley, Charlie, Claire and Sayid. Some fans say they were thrilled to learn about The Others, while others missed the original castaways.

“Seeing The Others was great, especially with the surprise beginning, that they have this cozy village, and the Lostaways have interrupted their seemingly idyllic life,” says Matthew Hoskins, 32, of Orlando. “But keeping the first six episodes so Others-centric was a detriment to the character development of the Lostaways still on the beach.”

In retrospect, the producers realized the fall arc was being viewed not as the first part of a whole season, but as a mini-season in itself.

“What I don’t think we anticipated was the amount of focus there would be on the six episodes themselves,” Cuse says. There was an expectation that “they had to be an encapsulation of everything people liked about the show.”

After Wednesday’s episode, which picks up the thread of the Nov. 8 cliffhanger involving Kate’s and Sawyer’s potential escape from The Others’ neighboring island, the story will become “beach-centric” with familiar faces on Feb. 14, Lindelof says. For viewers who want to escape The Others’ “Alcatraz” altogether, he promises the story will get off that island after Feb. 21.

Five Things You Need To Know About LOST’s Return

3. You’ll see more of the characters you love — and miss. Wondering what’s up with Hurley, Sayid, Claire and Locke? They’ll all get the flashback treatment by the end of March. Hurley’s episode delves into his complicated relationship with his father, played by Cheech Marin, whom Cuse worked with on Nash Bridges. Locke’s flashback episode could reveal how he wound up in that wheelchair, while Sayid’s is “one that will be enormously satisfying,” Cuse says, “because it is a heavy answer-mode episode.” Adds Lindelof, “Sayid is asking all the questions that [fans] want answered.”

And now, some deep thoughts and question on Lost up to this point, hopefully tonight we will get some answers!

Questions

The hydra station is located on the second island, does this mean that it is not a part of the original cluster of stations (as seen in the infrared map revealed on the hatch blast door)? Is there a second set of stations or is the Hydra all by itself?

What does “Shephard wasn’t even on Jacob’s list” (as said by Tom before heading to kill Sayer) mean? Who is Jacob and what is the list (not the same list as the one given to Hurley since that list included Jack Shephard)?

The Others didn’t know how Alex was able to get to the second island, does she know a secret way (that the losties might use to escape)?

If Goodwin was sent alone by the Others to blend in with the tailies, who took the tailie children? More evidence of a different group of Others?

Is Jacob the guy with the eye patch?

Lots of weird stuff concerning Alex - why does it seem she is pretty free to run around without getting beat (like Carl)?  Almost as if she is related to someone in power. Perhaps Ben, who seems overly concerned whether or not Alex asked about him? Also, why are they giving her clothes away (Kate was given her dress to wear)?

The bible verse on Eko’s stick, John 3:05 - interesting that it’s 3:05 rather than just 3:5 as you would normally quote a bible verse. And the verse - was it “Lift your eyes and look north” and then the verse reference “John 3:05” or was it “Lift your eyes and look north, John (Locke)” and then 3:05 as either a time, compass heading, or code?

What is the connection between Tom (formerly Mr. Friendly & Zeke) and Ben? When Jack starts threatening Ben’s life Tom looks as if he’s about to cry. Are they lifelong best friends or brothers or something? Although we are pretty sure that Tom is gay (with his “You’re not my type” comment to Kate at the beginning of the season) it doesn’t “seem” as though Ben is so I think it’s either family or deep friendship.

What happened to Kate in transition from the breakfast on the beach with Ben and being dragged to the cages? She had huge bruises on her arms, etc.

Simple question, if Ben has lived the island his “entire life” how did he originally get there? How long have people been living on the island?

Don’t forget to watch tonight!
