Adapt, Modify, Evolve, Reboot

I’ve been holding back from saying anything, but today is not only the CSS Reboot and the launching of the Echo Faith redesign, it is also Day 1 of a new life endeavor that I’m embarking on.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Site Reboot

I’d been working on some ideas and several different designs as far back as November but nothing had really been very satisfying. Then I was struck with inspiration when I saw the unveiling of Cameron Moll’s new Portfolio. I found the source of some of the fantastic textures at Jason Gaylor’s blog. Check it out, his stuff freaking fantastic.

My first attempt gave me the main texture used for current background but lacked any real punch to the header.

I wanted the punch.

Once I finished the design in photoshop and loose html/css it was time convert it into Wordpress functional html/css. Sometimes I love coding and sometimes I hate it… this redesign led me to the hatred angle. I always begin with an attempt to create beautiful code that works great and is simple and elegant. Unfortunately, this beautiful code never seems to display properly in all the browsers so I end up patching and fixing tiny things here and there until I get the hodgepodge code that finally works. Oh well, as long as it functions.

Please give some feedback, I’d love to hear what everyone thinks of the redesign!

UPDATE: If you want to be really cool you can go to my CSS Reboot page and give my design a 1-5 star rating. I’ll give you a donut for a 5-star rating. =)

Life Reboot

Alright now the info you’ve been waiting for.

Let’s just make a long story short and say last Friday was my last day working at Destination Marketing, an ad agency I’ve been working for the past 3 years. Starting today I begin employment at Gold Creek Community Church as the graphic designer / web designer / creative guy / etc. I’m super excited for this huge change and I’ll be working with one of the coolest teams a guy for can ask for. It’s a little bit scary stepping away from my safety net at the job I’ve had since I moved out but I’m really excited for the opportunities that await me at Gold Creek.

The very best part about my new job? I can wear jeans to work, and I get Friday’s off. Oh heck ya.
